Bollywood actress Preity Zinta had a “nerve-wracking” experience when she was stuck in her car in Mumbai’s deluge last week.
Preity has written an article to a leading news daily, asking pertinent questions about the civic sense, basic infrastructure and town planning in Mumbai, following the deluge that the city witnessed last week.
In her article, Preity recalled her own ordeal in the Mumbai rain. She said she was stuck in her car in Juhu. Her car stopped on a speed breaker and slowly the water level rose and reached the windows. As the mobile phone lines were also dead, Preity had no choice but to sit and wait.
But before the worst could happen, a group of students from Rizvi College came to her rescue and pushed her car off the speed breaker to a place where the water level was comparatively low. Preity got out of the car and caught her breath.
“The incident was nerve-racking,” said Preity, adding, “It hit me I’m a single woman in this city and if these guys hadn’t helped me I probably would have suffocated in the car.”
However, Preity saluted the spirit of Mumbaikars who, she said, showed remarkable solidarity and resilience in this natural catastrophe.
