Bollywood Rani felt like a queen in Casablanca

Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee had an “unforgettable experience” at the Casablanca Film Festival where she was showered with adulation at the retrospective of four of her films.

About fifty thousand people gathered on the beach to watch Chalte Chalte , the touchy romantic movie that stars Rani with Shah Rukh Khan .

It happened last month in Casablanca, Morocco, where Rani went on 21 July for a retrospective featuring four of her best films, namely Veer Zaara , Chalte Chalte , Saathiya and Black . The movies had Arabic subtitles.

Although the original plan was to screen Sanjay Leela Bhansali ’s ‘Black’ as the opening film of the retrospective, but since the print of the movie was delayed, Chalte Chalte was screened instead.

Rani was overwhelmed at the audience response and the discussion she had with them after the movie’s screening. This was the first time when a retrospective of Rani’s films was held at any film fest.

IANS quotes Rani as saying: “It was an experience I'll never forget...not only because it was my first retrospective at any festival, but also because of the interaction that I had to undergo with the audience after my film was screened. A lot of them were cinema students and their curiosity about our films and culture and their insightful questions made me very proud to represent our country and cinema.”

Rani said it took her some time to let the adulation and honor sink in. She called it a good morale booster.

Rani said movie buffs in Morocco had great curiosity about progressive Bollywood films like ‘Black’ and Sarkar .

Although Rani couldn’t go on sightseeing in the Mediterranean city, she said she was “treated like a queen” by the city’s mayor and also presented with a special divine kaftan.
