Bollywood’s inimitable superstar Amitabh Bachchan returns to the small screen Friday night with the promise of “gyan”, “masti” and “umeed se dugna” reward in the Star Plus show Kaun Banega Crorepati 2.

At the stroke of nine tonight, curtains will lift to a new, revitalized version of the show that kept millions glued to their televisions. Sitting on the hotseat in the first episode of KBC 2 will be the Patna boy Abhishek Gaurav, an IIT (Chennai) student. The reward money for KBC 2 has been doubled to two crores.

KBC 2 will feature Amitabh in a cool dude avatar, an image many youngsters identify from his roles in films like Bunty Aur Babli . Interestingly, the show doesn’t have any pre-written script. It is Bachchan extempore all the way – his wit, humor, sensibility and spontaneity.

In fact, Amitabh has been putting the best of his efforts in the show. Despite his film assignments, the superstar has been committed to the show single-mindedly.

Last week, following the Monsoon fury and deluge in Mumbai, shooting for the show was cancelled for three days. But Amitabh made up for the lost time by working around-the-clock.

It is learnt that on Tuesday this week, he shot for 16 hours for the show in Mumbai’s Film City. He then took a four-hour break and returned to shoot again.

KBC 2 will run for 85 episodes till February 2006 as per Bachchan’s contractual obligations with the show’s producers. There are reports that Bollywood celebs Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan will appear in KBC 2 a week before the release of their much-awaited Salaam Namaste .

KBC 2 will be aired on three consecutive days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) of the weekend.
