'Mangal Pandey' gets excellent rating by 'The Guardian'

The most expensive film in the history of Bollywood ‘Mangal Pandey – The Rising ‘ has got an excellent rating by 'The Guardian', considered to be the most widely read publication in U.K.

And the film’s producer Bobby Bedi is obviously quite pleased with the fact.

Incidentally, the film is being released with a record number of prints in U.K. "We are releasing it with close to 100 prints, which is the largest ever for any Hindi film released in the U.K.," Bedi disclosed.

Bedi also admitted to being "exhilarated" with the standing ovation the film received at the Locarno film festival, which opened with the film. "It is the first time an international film festival has opened with an Indian film and both me and Aamir Khan , were overwhelmed by the standing ovation accorded to the film. Aamir is in fact eagerly waiting for the D-day on August 12, when the film opens in India," he said.

The craze for the film is only rising with each passing day. The reasons for the heat the film is generating are several. For one, Aamir will have a release after four years.

Secondly, Aamir's get-up (long hair, moustache) in the film has been liked by the audience, as evident from the response to its trailers.

Thirdly, the trailers themselves are being keenly discussed by the film buffs.

Fourthly, the historical is being publicised on a lavish scale.

All the above-cited reasons have led to a lot of craze for the film, which is due for release on 12th August with a record number of prints. This, despite the fact that it is directed by Ketan Mehta who is not a 'commercially hot' director!

The film, made in Hindi and English, will be released simultaneously on 12th August. The Hindi version is being released by Yash Chopra .
