Aamir promotes 'The Rising' in South Africa

Just days before the worldwide release of his movie Mangal Pandey – The Rising, actor Aamir Khan made a brief visit to Durban in South Africa to promote the movie.

Spurred by the terrific response the movie got at the Locarno Film Festival and also the good reviews it has got from some British tabloids, Aamir and the team of The Rising are giving their last push to promote the movie.

Accompanied by co-star Toby Stephens and director Ketan Mehta , Aamir made a fleeting visit to Durban where he held a press conference to promote the film and answer queries.

Addressing the media, Aamir said he was looking forward to see the response of Indian and British audience to the film as the viewers at Locarno mainly consisted of the Swiss, French, Italians and Germans.

“What I'm really looking forward to now is the response of the Indian audience, whose history this film is about, and the British audience. This is part of the history of India and the UK, and I'm really looking forward to the response of the audiences from there,” Aamir said.

About preparing for his role of Mangal Pandey in the film, Aamir said since not much material was available about Pandey, he had to rely on other historical facts about that period (mid 19th century).

Aamir said even the decision to sport long hair and heavy moustache was taken because he wanted to show Mangal Pandey as an aggressive and wild character.

Toby Stephens, who plays a British officer in the movie, said working in the film has been “an extraordinary experience” for him.

‘The Rising’ will release on Friday, August 12. The movie also stars Rani Mukherjee and Amisha Patel .
