Things may not exactly be hunky dory for Malayalam megastar Mohanlal on homeground. But Bollywood has, once again, beckoned to the immensely talented actor.
The latest buzz from Bollywood is that Ram Gopal Varma has decided to cast Mohanlal in his version of Sholay . The Mollywood hero will play the Thakur -- brilliantly executed by the late Sanjeev Kumar in the original -- in Varma's audacious venture in the making.
This is, of course, Mohanlal's second foray into Bollywood. Varma himself had introduced him to Hindi film world in his earlier flick Company . Mohanlal was a police officer in that film, a role that was well appreciated all round.
However, Company's success did not turn the Malayalam actor, into a celebrity in Bollywood overnight -- either for want of offers or lack of effort.
Varma's gesture is being construed as handsome acknowledgement of Mohanlal's acting prowess, glimpses of which he gave in "Company."
In the film, Mohanlal will be matching his skill with none other than the Shahenshah of Bollywood, The Big B, who has been drafted to play Gabbar Singh, immortalised by Amjad Khan in the original version of ‘Sholay’.
It will, well and truly, be a clash of the titans!
