Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan is likely to play the role of the last Mughal emperor in filmmaker Ketan Mehta’s third movie in ‘The Rising’ trilogy.
Following the landmark box-office collection of his movie ‘Mangal Pandey The Rising ’ in its first week, director Ketan Mehta is getting ready to make two more films about Indian first war of Independence against the British.
The first one, as already reported, would be on Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi with Aishwarya Rai probably in the lead role. And the second movie would be on the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.
To play this stellar role Mehta is reported to have approached Amitabh Bachchan .
A report quoted Mehta as saying: “I’d like Mr Bachchan in the role. But it is too premature to say anything concrete.”
Mehta added that a confirmation about Bachchan’s approval to do the film is still awaited.
Mehta will start making the movie on Jhansi Ki Rani next year. The film on Bahadur Shah Zafar will be made in 2007.
Incidentally, late filmmaker Kamal Amrohi (who made ‘Pakeezah’) had toyed with the idea of making a film titled Aakhri Mughal on Bahadur Shah Zafar. He too had thought that Bachchan suited the role best. However, the project never took off.
