Beauty soap Lux has a history of showing Bollywood actresses in its advertisements. From Zeenat Aman to Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit to Aishwarya Rai . But King Khan is all set to change that.

Yes, a report in a leading newspaper says that to celebrate its 75 years, Lux has signed not the latest beauty queen but Shah Rukh Khan – its first Indian male brand ambassador.

The report quotes as SRK saying, “It’s something I always wanted to do for many years, and had mentioned to the Lux people many times.”

The report says: But he is not the first global male ambassador for Lux. That honour goes to Oscar winner Paul Newman. SRK obviously doesn’t know about Newman’s feat. “Damn,” he says. “Who was the first guy? But I’m sure he wasn’t in a tub of water with rose petals around him.”

Lux’s ‘star’ tradition started in 1934 with actor Leena Chitnis. Until then, it used foreign film stars to promote its beauty soap. The long list of actors who have modelled for the brand is a veritable who’s who of the film industry.

The report adds that SRK’s hairless chest appeal might draw a lot of female eyeballs to the ads, but will pivoting its product around a male star help lift Hindustan Lever’s sagging fortunes at the product shelves?

The report quotes ad filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar saying: “I think it’s a great strategy, as most of the time these guys make females doll up in bathtubs and who are the people who see those ads more? The men — who don’t use the soap.”

So, now get ready to see the King Khan in a bathtub with rose petals taking bath with Lux.
