Mallika's 'The Myth' premiered in Toronto

The Mallika Sherawat - Jackie Chan starrer The Myth was premiered at Toronto International Film Festival on September 15, two days before the end of the festival.

Mallika has several bosom-popping scenes in Stanley Tong's film, but sadly, the 15 minutes of screen time she has in this fantasy are instantly forgettable. Not only that, Mallika's role, like many other things in the film, suffer from weak writing.

But Mallika, who appears in the movie about half an hour after it opens and disappears for good after about 15 minutes, has a couple of spotlight-stealing moments.

For instance, in a hilarious fighting scene, quite a lot of Mallika’s clothing comes off. But this being a Jackie Chan film, there cannot be too much of sex. So, Jackie promptly removes his sweatshirt and covers her with it.

The film’s biggest weakness is that Jackie, 50, is flat in the emotional scenes. And he is nowhere as funny in the Rush Hour series. It is a mystery why the Indian sequence is added to the film.

Mallika’s introduction scene sees her frolicking in a lake with an elephant by her side. She takes it on herself to help Chan. Soon, she is seen in an awkwardly staged dance scene -- with the dancers around her looking dazzlingly fair complexioned in sharp contrast to the very dark-skinned people around them.

As of Friday, ‘The Myth’ was still looking for a North American distributor. It had not been also sold in Europe, South America and Australia.

The action-adventure film, which received lukewarm reception in Toronto, might head south just the way the recent Jackie Chan films -- including ‘Around The World In 80 Days’ and ‘The Medallion’ -- have done in the US and much of Europe.

The film, made on a modest budget of $15 million, opens in Singapore and Hong Kong on September 23.
