In June we told you that sex-kitten Mallika Sherawat won a survey as the best kisser in Bollywood amongst actresses. But things seem to have changed post Salaam Namaste .
For after scorching liplocks with Saif Ali Khan in the film, public opinion is that Preity Zinta is a better on-screen kisser than the original smooch siren Mallika.
Preity doesn’t know how to react to her latest claim to fame. ‘‘I don’t know what people mean when they say that. But I admit that I had reservations about the kisses,’’ she says.
Preity almost didn’t work in ‘Salaam Namaste’. ‘‘I took a week to say yes to Adi ( Aditya Chopra ). I just wasn’t sure if I could pull it off,’’ she says.
In the end, the film’s script convinced Preity. And also the fact that the makers would not use the kisses as a publicity gimmick. ‘‘I knew that the entire second half of the film dealt with pregnancy so we had to show intimate scenes. Anyway, we’ve come a long way from showing two flowers meeting as a symbol for kissing,’’ she says.
Preity feels ‘Salaam Namaste’ is right up there in her personal favourite list. ‘‘I like my character, Ambar. She’s modern, progressive and not a bechari. But she still wants a marriage and the father of her baby to accept the child.’’
Unlike Ambar though, Preity doesn’t believe in the concept of live-in relationships. ‘‘That’s not for me unless someone wants to live in my suitcase because I travel so much,’’ she laughs.
