Salman keeps his date with Big Apple

After canceling his press conference in New York on Monday, actor Salman Khan did turn up for the much-awaited event on Tuesday to promote his forthcoming movie Kyon Ki .

The press conference in New York’s Park Central Hotel was cancelled at the last minute on Monday because Salman was not well. The conference was postponed for Tuesday.

On Tuesday, too, it looked like the media persons would have to return disappointed from the venue after Salman failed to show up more than an hour after the appointed time.

But then suddenly, Salman and other crewmembers of Kyon Ki walked in. Salman was wearing blue jeans, a dark blue shirt and black boots.

It was made clear beforehand that the actor would only answer queries related to the movie and no personal questions.

Sitting in front of a huge poster of the movie on the rear wall, Salman fielded questions from journalists.

Speaking about his role in the movie, Salman said: “It's about a guy who's crazy. For me, that's very easy to play.”

In the movie, directed by Priyadarshan , Salman plays a guy named Anand. Kareena Kapoor is his heroine.

When asked what he found challenging about his role in the movie, Salman said with an air of indifference: “Nothing…When people find roles challenging, it means somewhere they're incompetent…They don't know their job really well.”

“I didn't think there was anything challenging. What I found difficult with this film was to wake up at 5:30 every morning. Shooting until 8 in the evening. That was challenging,” said Salman as he kept on scribbling on a notepad before him.

About his costar Kareena Kapoor, Salman said he initially thought it was awkward to do a romantic role with the girl he has seen grow up ever since she was a child.

“I've been working with her sister (Karisma), so to suddenly do a role which is romantic with Kareena was kind of awkward, because I've seen her since she was seven or eight. But now she's a grown up woman,” Salman said.

Salman was also all praise for the movie’s director Priyadarshan.

When asked what is it he hates about Indian cinema, Salman said he hated the name “Bollywood”. He said the name sounded like “some brain-dead journalist's brainchild.”

Salman has been in New York since the beginning of this month, shooting for Sajid Nadiadwala's film Jaan-e-man with Preity Zinta .
