Now, Aishwarya Rai is in India to play the courtesan and poetess Umrao Jaan. This is one high of acting. You get to play such contrasting characters one after the other that it gives you a new insight into life. Aishwarya is exuberant nowadays, having come back from grueling shooting schedules of her movie ‘The Last Legion’ in Tunisia and Slovakia. 
The Doug Lefler movie gave her the chance to work with the Hollywood stalwart Ben Kingsley and actor Colin Firth. Ash says she has had “a time of my life” acting with the two stars, who she says, have become good friends. And despite the fact that she shot in very hot conditions in Tunisia and then very cold in Slovakia, Ash says she enjoyed every bit of it and always felt “at home”. Now, she is in India to play the courtesan Umrao Jaan in J.P. Dutta’s movie of the same title. From playing a warrior to a courtesan is quite a contrast, but then, this is what Ash enjoys. “Oh, I enjoy taking leaps into the unknown,” Ash is quoted as saying. By the way, a number of Ash’s forthcoming films have her playing characters inspired from real life. She is playing the NRI, Kiranjit Ahluwalia, in Jagmohan Mundhra’s Provoked . And she plays the royal Rajmaata Gayatri Devi in Dutta’s next movie after ‘Umrao Jaan’.
