Hema Malini: Still resplendent at 57

Actress Hema Malini turns 57 today. Even at her age, the gorgeous Ms Malini is busy on many different fronts – politics, acting, social work and homely commitments. And she is raring to do more.

The ‘dream girl’ of yore is not in India to celebrate her birthday on October 16. She is in Geneva for the International Parliament Union summit where she will be meeting various Asian parliamentarians.

On the eve of her birthday, Ms Malini told a tabloid that she doesn’t feel older. She thanked God for her good health and said she was looking forward to do lot more things in the future.

“I feel I need to do more…much more. I’ve the resources, the power and energy to make things happen. I need to exercize my power in many other areas,” she is quoted by the IANS.

Hema Malini began her acting career in Hindi films in 1968 with Raj Kapoor’s film Sapno Ka Saudagar. She did a few inconsequential films at the start of her career before coming to limelight with Johnny Mera Naam that co-starred Dev Anand .

But the movie that cemented her position in the league of the top actresses was Seeta Aur Geeta. Hema won the best actress award in the movie for her portrayal of very contrasting characters of twin sisters.

Besides acting in movies, Ms Malini has also been a trained Bharat Natyam danseuse and has given many performances in India and worldwide. She turned to directing films with Dil Aashna Hai in 1991 and was honored with the Padma Vibhushan award in 1999.

Today, Hema Malini stands as a vibrant woman active in politics, social issues and films.

She was seen acting with Amitabh Bachchan in the last years’ Baghban . Her next movie assignment is Babul with the same team.
