The numero uno actress in Bollywood today Rani Mukherjee was away on work in New York when Durga Pooja festivities were being conducted by her family in Mumbai.
Rani, a diehard Bengali with a family background of film production through generations, missed all the fun of the community Durga Puja conducted by her family in Mumbai because she was in New York, shooting for Karan Johar ’s film ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan , Shah Rukh Khan , Abhishek Bachchan and Preity Zinta .
But Rani did take part in the Durga Pooja organized by the Indian community in New York!
The Bengali community in Mumbai 58 years ago, started a community Durga Pooja during Navaratri in Santa Cruz, a sleepy suburb of Mumbai in those days, to celebrate Bengal’s most popular festival in Mumbai.
In time, when Kajol and Rani became famous and started participating in the festivities, the crowds became bigger by the year and the family hosted prasad meals for all visitors and held many cultural events to entertain the devotees.
So when Rani missed all the celebrations in Mumbai, she did take part in the Durga Pooja organized by the Indian community in New York.
Rani may have one more job to do in New York. Now that Paheli , SRK’s production, has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars, she may be asked by the Bollywood Badshah to promote the film in the USA.
“I would be happy to give time for promoting this film,” says a happy Rani, “I am delighted that this movie has been chosen for this prestigious event. If Shah Rukh Khan wants me, I will join in the promotion. He is also in New York for the shoot. So a decision will be taken.”
