Who will succeed Shah Rukh Khan?

Shah Rukh Khan will turn 40 this November 2. Speculation is rife in Bollywood that who will succeed the superstar.

Not that SRK is hanging his boots or quitting films, but he is looking for a hit after Veer Zaara following his movies like Swades directed by no less than Ashutosh Gowarikar of Lagaan and Paheli directed by Amol Palekar , didn't fare as well as expected.

And this has resulted in the speculation that who will succeed the King Khan. SRK is known for his versatility, and that's why the industry is feeling the pinch, as it hasn't got many to succeed him. There is already a shortage of versatile actors.

Superstars who entered Bollywood before SRK - Sunny Deol , Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt are well past their 40s and Aamir Khan and Salman Khan are already in the top bracket and SRK’s contemporaries.

So the most likely names that come to the mind for SRK’s successor are that of Abhishek Bachchan , Hrithik Roshan and John Abraham .

Abhishek has shown his excellent performance beginning from Refugee to Yuva to Run and recently in Dhoom . Besides, the junior Bachchan impressed the viewers in Bunty Aur Babli and Sarkar in the company of his legendary father Amitabh Bachchan . Apart from this, he has on hand 'Dhoom-2', 'Bluff Master' and 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna'.

Next comes Hrithik who got an amazing success in his father Rakesh Roshan ‘s two movies -- Kaho Na Pyar Hai and Koi Mil Gaya . Hrithik’s last release Lakshya was excellent but didn't fare well at the ticket window. Now, he is busy in the sequel of 'Koi Mil Gaya' and Abhishek starrer 'Dhoom-2' and Ashutosh' historical 'Jodha Akbar', opposite Aishwarya Rai .

Then comes the model-turned-actor John. He isn't far behind. Beginning with Jism , John got rave reviews for ‘Dhoom’ and a lot of admiration for Viruddh and now he is all set to tickle the funny bone in Garam Masala .

In case we think of a Khan to succeed SRK, then the names of Saif Ali Khan , Fardeen Khan and Zayed Khan come to our mind.

Saif got a recognition in the industry for his performance in Dil Chahta Hai and then as a versatile and brilliant actor in Parineeta . Besides, he has received the National Award for The Best Actor this year for Hum Tum . Saif's acting in 'Parineeta' has been compared with that of SRK in Devdaas . And, Saif's recently released Salaam Namaste has been stated to be faring well at box office. So, he stands in the race though Saif isn't as popular as SRK is.

Fardeen proved his mettle in Dev and Zayed in SRK starrer Main Hoon Na , but the two cousins are nowhere close to SRK neither in acting credentials nor in popularity.

But all these contenders seem to be far, far away from filling the vacuum created by SRK's absence, if and whenever it comes.
