Amitabh Bachchan and the other stars of Ek Ajnabee are promoting the movie in New York.

Besides shooting for Karan Johar's movie Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, the Big B is promoting Apoorva Lakhia's movie Ek Ajnabee in the Big Apple.

A press conference was held recently at the Dream Hotel where Mr. Bachchan, actor Arjun Rampal , Vikram Chatwal , producer Bunty Walia and director Apoorva Lakhia spoke about the movie.

The room at the basement of the hotel was packed with journalists and movie lovers. The conference began with the preview of teasers from the movie. A cheer broke out in the room the minute shots of Mr. Bachchan walking and doing action scenes appeared on the screen.

A question and answer session followed the preview screening.

The movie's director, Lakhia, said the film was inspired by Hollywood movie 'Man On Fire', which is based on a novel by the late British author A J Quinnell.

However, Lakhia insisted that his movie was not a copy. He said 'Man On Fire' has been made into four films in different languages.

"This is the Indian version. It has all the necessarily ingredients required for a movie to come out of India," Lakhia said about Ek Ajnabee.

Speaking about Bollywood adapting from Hollywood, Bachchan said the latter also took its inspiration from the former. To drive home his point, the superstar said his movie Aankhen is being remade in Hollywood.

Bachchan, who looked calm and serene throughout the conference, showed discomfort when praises were lavished on him by the movie's director and co-star Arjun Rampal.

Lakhia called Bachchan "India's last cowboy", while Rampal recalled an incident during the shoot when he forgot his dialogues as he looked into Bachchan's eyes.

The conference had its moments of humour. Replying to a question, Mr. Bachchan said that no one wants to cast a 63-year-old actor with a heroine. Hearing this, a female reporter instantly offered to be his heroine. Bachchan's reply, too, was spontaneous. He told the lady: "See you after this!". And the whole room reverberated with laughter.
