Urmila's colourful act to open IFFI

Actress Urmila Matondkar will pay a tribute to the heroines of Indian cinema with her song n’ dance act at the inauguration of this year’s International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Every year, we get to see a classical performance as the opening act of IFFI. This year is going to be a different one.

To be held in Goa, the ten-day festival will kick-off on November 25 with veteran Dev Anand as the chief guest. Mr. Anand, along with Telugu star Chiranjeevi and minister for Information and Broadcasting Priyaranjan Das Munsi, will light the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the film fest.

The opening act will see Urmila performing to a number of songs from the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s movies to the present ones.

An IANS report quotes Urmila as saying that she has a number of songs in her mind for the performance.

"I will probably start with Madhubala's Pyar kiya to darna kya in Mughal-e-Azam…Of course, there will be a Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit song. I also want to do a number each from Pakeezah and Umrao Jaan," Urmila is quoted as saying.

Urmila is also keen to have a song from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdaas in her performance.

For Urmila, the festival may bring a sense of déjà vu as two years back her movie Pinjar had premiered at the same fest in Delhi.
