Bunty Aur Babli completes silver jubilee

Riding on the 'magic' of the 'Big B-Small B combination' on the one hand and the 'ineluctable charm' of Rani Mukherjee , Aditya Chopra 's Bunty Aur Babli has notched up a silver jubilee to its name.

The Shaad Ali -directed film, which had Abhishek Bachchan and Rani in the lead roles, completed 25 weeks of its run in two theatres in Mumbai on Friday, a remarkable achievement at a time when many big-budget films are known to fade away from public memory after a three to four-week run at cinema halls.

Trade sources said Bunty Aur Babli completed 25 weeks at Dreamland theatre (where it is being screened in matinee show) and Regal (where the film is being shown in one show daily).

The film is one of the biggest hits in India as well as overseas this year, grossing more than Rs 60 crore during its 25-week run, 6 crore of that in Mumbai alone.

Trade sources say that in terms of its gross box office collections, the film can be called a super hit, a distinction that only Boney Kapoor ‘s No Entry has achieved.

In the overseas territories too, the film has grossed yielded about Rs 10 crore till date, and is among the top ten grosser of the year in the US, UK and the Gulf. In Canada and the US, the film is the fourth biggest earner among Indian films with collections of 9.5 lakh dollars (Rs 4.75 crore) while in the UK too it has the fourth highest collections at 5.6 lakh UK pounds (nearly Rs 4 crore). In the Gulf, the film is the third biggest grosser among Bollywood films.

The film's music too has been on the top of popularity charts with the song ''Kajra Re'', featuring former Miss World Aishwarya Rai along with Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek becoming a rage across the country.
