Jackie Chan gets a rousing welcome in Mumbai

Martial arts star Jackie Chan was greeted with a rousing welcome at the Mumbai airport Monday night. Chan is in the city to promote his movie The Myth .

Mallika Sherawat , the Bollywood sex kitten who plays a marginal role in the movie, was conspicuous by her absence. However, the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport was swarming with mediapersons, fans and a Chinese delegation that had come to receive the actor.

Jackie Chan and Stanley Tong (the movie’s director) stepped out of the airport, escorted by a team of CISF policemen and personal bodyguards, to a loud welcome by the cheering crowd. Chan was greeted with a rose garland and a bright orange pagdi (turban). Chan wore the pagdi proudly, smiled to the crowd and said loudly: “Namaste India”.

At the airport itself, Chan was treated to a Punjabi folk dance performance. Although Chan did not join the dance, he watched the dancers with an amused reaction and smile.

The actor then greeted “Namaste” once again to the crowd and went to the JW Marriott Hotel in a black Mercedes.

During his one-day stay in Mumbai, Chan will hold a press conference in which he will answer the questions related to the movie. Mallika Sherawat will also be present at the conference.

Chan and Mallika will also attend the special screening of ‘The Myth’ at Cinemax, the new multiplex at Andheri. The screening is only for actors and actresses from Bollywood. Mallika would also introduce Chan to a number of Bollywood actors and filmmakers.

If time permits, Chan might also go on a special tour of Mumbai with Mallika in a limousine.

In between, Chan is also likely to meet Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
