But Rang De Basanti seems more than just a youth flick. The film tells the story of four youngsters and a British girl. The four male leads of the movie are Aamir Khan , Madhavan , Kunal Kapoor and Siddartha . British theatre actress Alice Patten and Soha Ali Khan are the leading ladies. 
Although the movie’s story is being kept secret by its stars and its director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra , whatever little information that has trickled out suggests that the film carries a strong message. It is not just a college campus story revolving around four guys and their love interests. The movie’s story takes a deep look into the Indian culture, tradition and its relevance in the contemporary times. The film features portions that have been shot at the Golden Temple of Amritsar. The scenes show Aamir, Alice Patten, Soha and Kiron Kher praying at the most holy Gurudwara for the Sikhs. Another sequence in the movie shows Aamir taking part in a horse race in a Punjab village. According to an inside source, the film has Alice playing a documentary filmmaker who comes to India to make a docu on Bhagat Singh, the freedom fighter and martyr from Punjab. A part of the movie’s story is about Aamir and other guys escorting Alice to several places in Punjab, the land of Bhagat Singh. As the movie’s male characters explore the country far away from the metropolises, they come across an India they hadn’t seen before, an India that is gradually being forgotten. Rang De Basanti’s punchline says – ‘A Generation Awakens’. The movie’s director Rakesh Mehra could not make a mark with his debut film Aks . But this time, Mehra seems to be prepared well. In an interview recently, the director said he has learnt a great deal from his past mistakes. Rang De Basanti will release early next year. (Photo shows Aamir from the movie.
