British actress Alice Patten is the latest foreign face in Bollywood.
Alice straddles two different worlds. She is quite active in British theatre and has acted in TV serials as well. And the coming days will see Alice making her Bollywood debut in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra ’s film Rang De Basanti .
While ‘Rang De Basanti’ will hit the theatres on January 20, less than a month after that, on February 13, Alice will act in West End play ‘Hamlet’ in which she plays the character of Ophelia.
Bollywood and Shakespeare – twenty-five year old Alice sure is getting to hone her acting skills in two very distinct genres.
In ‘Rang De Basanti’, Alice plays Sue, a young London-based filmmaker who chances upon the diaries of her grandfather, who served in the British police force in India during the freedom struggle. Excited about these memoirs, she comes to India to shoot a film on the Indian revolutionaries mentioned in the diaries. She hires five young men for her movie.
Although Alice is cast alongside Aamir Khan in the film, the two do not play lovers. The relationship between the two in the story remains blur.
