HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD Bollywood can't get out of New Year jinx06th Jan 2006 21.48 IST By Agencies Top Bollywood producers continue to be in the grip of New Year jinx, shying away from releasing their films in the first week when, going by the past records, movies have failed to do well at the box-office. However, notwithstanding the jinx some filmmakers have released their films today. The first release of 2006 will be N R Pasichia's Jawani Diwani , starring Celina Jaitley , Emraan Hashmi and Hrishitaa Bhatt Pasichia's last venture, Jo Bole So Nihaal , released in mid-2005, created more controversy than catching the attention of the audience. 
The Sunny Deol starrer created a furore with the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) demanding a ban on the film for ''hurting'' Sikh sentiments. If that was not enough a bomb went off in a Delhi theatre, which was showing the film, on June 21. Trade analysts say big budgeted films in the first week of New Year have rarely done well. Last year's first release Vaada was a box-office disaster. Same was the fate of first 2004 release Ishq Hai Tumse and also 2003 release Talaash . The Aamir Khan - Twinkle Khanna starrer Mela in 2000 also sank at the box-office, while Kaho Na Pyar Hai , which marked Hrithik Roshan 's debut, was released in the middle of January the same year and went on to create box-office history. Sanjay Gupta 's Zinda is slated to hit the screens next week. A B Corp and Keshu Ramsay production Family - Ties Of Blood directed by Rajkumar Santoshi was also set for next week release. However, according to trade sources, the Amitabh Bachchan starrer may get delayed as Big B has not completed the dubbing for the film due to illness. The film, in which Bachchan plays a pivotal role, was earlier scheduled for a December 23 release. It also stars Akshay Kumar and Bhumika Chawla . The December last week releases Harry Fernandes's 'Anjane', John Matthan's Shikhar and Dev Anand 's Mr. Prime Minister sank without a trace at the box-office.
