Although the box-office performance of the two Bollywood releases of the last week isn’t captivating, Sanjay Gupta’s Zinda is faring much better than Rajkumar Santoshi’s Family - Ties Of Blood .
At the box-office in its first week’s run, ‘Zinda’ has managed to stay afloat and there are reports that the movie might pick up after the word-of-mouth publicity. However, the unapologetic depiction of gore in the movie’s second half may put off those faint at heart.
The response to the movie in metros and other states like Punjab and Rajasthan is said to be an encouraging one, if not captivating.
‘Family’, on the other hand, seems to be sliding down to what looks like a box-office disaster.
In the US too, ‘Zinda’ has fared better than ‘Family’. ‘Zinda’ opened at No. 36 position on the US charts and approximated a sum of $167,246 during its run on 38 screens.
In the UK, ‘Family’ has fared slightly better than ‘Zinda’. ‘Family’ debuted at 18th spot while ‘Zinda’ opened at 21st on UK charts. But this advantage may be purely because of the presence of Mr. Bachchan in Santoshi’s movie.
And if the views of trade analysts back home are to be believed, ‘Zinda’ may end up as an average grosser, but chances for the recovery of ‘Family’ seem bleak.
