The audiences continue to turn out in droves to the cinema halls to watch the latest Aamir Khan -starrer Rang De Basanti . And accolades keep pouring in.

Aamir's last film 'Mangal Pandey - The Rising ' may not have measured up to people's expectations but his latest film Rang De Basanti has not only rocked audiences at home as well as abroad but has also bowled over the critics and people in the Mumbai film industry.

Trade sources say the film has, in its opening week, drawn huge audiences in India and abroad, specially the Gen next, who have been turning up in huge numbers in several parts of the country to watch the film.

The brilliant analogy drawn in the film between today's youth and revolutionaries like Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru and Ramprasad Bismil, together with director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra 's unique style of storytelling has endeared the film to the young generation, most of whom seem to have identified with the portrayals of today's youth in the film.

That the audiences, specially in the big and metropolitan cities in the country, have been turning out in huge numbers to see Rang De Basanti is evident from the film notching up record collections in its opening week.

The film's collections in Mumbai alone in the opening week were over Rs 4 crore, while it earned close to Rs 2 crore in Delhi in the same week. Besides, the film has witnessed record collections in 'urban locales' like Goa, Surat, Gandhinagar, Pune, Nasik and Noida as well as 'semi-urban areas like Baroda, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Sangli.

The film's total collections in the opening week all over India were over Rs 8 crore.

In fact, the film, released on January 26, is being seen in film trade circles as the first big hit of the year considering most other films released in the first month of the year, including big budget movies like Family - Ties Of Blood and Zinda opened to lukewarm response at the box office.

Rang De Basanti also took a stupendous opening in the overseas territories. In fact, the film's total collections in the US, UK, Australia and Gulf in the opening weekend amounted to Rs 6.25 crore, making it Aamir's biggest opener overseas, better than the actor's last release, 'Mangal Pandey - The Rising'.
