Saif, Fardeen in 'Qurbani' remake!

Senior actor and filmmaker Feroz Khan is gearing up to remake his 1980 hit movie ‘Qurbani’.

Was a time when Feroz Khan’s movies used to be a rage at the theatres. Movies like Qurbani and ‘Jaanbaaz’, deemed as all-time Bollywood hits, tackled urbane themes, were visually bold and were lapped up by the moviegoers.

But then came the low phase. One after the other, movies like ‘Yalgaar’ (1993), ‘Prem Agan’ (1998), Janasheen (2003) and the recent one Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena (directed by Suparna Verma) fell flat at the marquee, making one wonder – has the senior Khan lost his magical touch!

Perhaps to revive this very magical touch Feroz Khan would now be remaking ‘Qurbani’ with son Fardeen Khan playing the role that the senior Khan himself played in the 1980 flick.

Saif Ali Khan has reportedly been signed to play the role essayed by Vinod Khanna in the original movie.

The original told the story of two conmen who fall in love with the same girl. One of them dies in the end.

Zeenat Aman played their love interest while the inimitable Amjad Khan played a gum-chewing cop with an eccentric sense of humour.

Matching the magic of old ‘Qurbani’ in the new remake would certainly be a challenge for Feroz Khan. Firstly, the movie’s songs – Laila Main Laila, Aap Jaisa Koi and Hum Tumhe Chahte Hain – would be difficult to replicate in terms of musical quality.

Secondly, it would need a really talented actor to do justice to the role played by Amjad Khan in the original.

A formal announcement of the remaining starcast and other details would most likely be made in the coming days.

Just to mention, Saif and Fardeen are also acting together in Abbas Mastan’s next thriller in which they play two brothers.
