Bollywood star Salman Khan was on Friday found guilty under the Wildlife Protection Act on charges of killing black bucks in 1997, reports say.
Salman, along with actor Satish Shah and seven others, has been accused of poaching two Chinkaras in the Thar desert at a village near Jodhpur in 1998, during the shooting of the film Hum Saath Saath Hain .
Charges against Khan were pressed by the local Bishnoi community in Rajasthan where the killing took place. The trial has been underway for seven years in Jodhpur. Just last month, Salman had voiced his frustration at the lengthy trail.
The final arguments on behalf of the accused were made in the court on February 4.
On Feb 17, the city court found Salman guilty of killing two blackbucks, a protected species of antelope. Khan has reportedly maintained his innocence.
However, the quantum of sentence would be pronounced later in the day by the chief judicial magistrate.
Under the provisions of the act, the actor might be sentenced to three years in prison and fined Rs 25,000.
