Akshay Kumar – a traveller in 'Rahgir'

The dashing actor is set to star in a movie that is roughly based on R.K. Narayan’s book ‘Guide’.

The film, titled Rahgir , which means traveller, will be produced by Pritish Nandy Communications and directed by Bengali filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh .

In all probability, the film will have Akshay Kumar playing the traveller. Vidya Balan , who walked away with the Best Debutante award on the Filmfare night, will reportedly play Akshay’s heroine in the film.

The makers of the movie are reportedly planning to aim ‘Rahgir’ at film festivals worldwide before releasing it sometime later this year.

Now, an arty movie with a commercial hero like Akshay may not sound music to the ears, but Pritish Nandy says he has full confidence in Akshay’s histrionic capability.

In fact, Nandy is quoted as saying that ‘Rahgir’ will showcase Akshay’s acting talent.

Nandy also says that the movie is not a remake of Vijay Anand’s Guide (that starred Dev Anand and Waheeda Rahman), but it does have similarities to the R.K. Narayan book of the same title.

Akshay, although presently busy in a number of Bollywood projects, is said to have taken out time from his busy schedules to accommodate dates for ‘Rahgir’.

The movie’s makers have plans to release it by the third quarter of this year.

Akshay’s next Bollywood release would be Humko Deewana Kar Gaye in which he is paired with Katrina Kaif for the first time.

As for Vidya Balan, she seems to be making rapid strides in Bollywood. She is pairing with the likes of Sanjay Dutt , John Abraham and now Akshay Kumar in her coming films.
