Kareena rides a rickshaw through Lucknow bazaar

For the first time in her life, Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor rode on a hand-pulled rickshaw through the chaotic bazaar of Lucknow.

However, Kareena’s rickshaw ride was not to fulfill some queer fantasy of her, but to shoot for Vishal Bhardwaj ’s forthcoming film that is based on Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’.

Bhardwaj, who has previously adapted Shakespeare’s MacBeth in his acclaimed movie Maqbool , is known for depicting authenticity in his movies.

Interestingly, his ‘Othello’ adaptation is set in rural and small towns of India. Even the characters in his film wear a very non-glamorized, rustic look. Saif Ali Khan , who plays a character on the lines of Iago, will be seen in a cropped haircut and yellow teeth. He will speak his dialogues in the UP accent in the film.

To shoot with a star cast like Kareena, Saif, Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi in a crowded town like Lucknow is indeed a daunting task.

And Vishal had to get right this shot that shows Kareena riding on a rickshaw through the crowded Imamabara area of Lucknow.

"We cordoned off the entire area for an hour. The shot had our hearts in our mouths. Fortunately, because of the tight security, there was no crisis. Otherwise shooting with such a huge cast in the streets of Uttar Pradesh could've caused a riot," Vishal is quoted as saying in an IANS report.

But Vishal says all the hard work pays off when a good shot is canned.

"To see Kareena through the camera coming towards me on a rickshaw in the middle of that chaotic traffic in Lucknow was no less than winning a war,” he is quoted.

Kareena herself was ecstatic after the shot.

About 20 percent of the film is believed to have been shot so far in locations like Mumbai, Pune and Lucknow. Vishal next moves with his cast and crew to Allahabad.
