HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD Rupees 100 crore riding on Salman Khan10th Apr 2006 22.45 IST Salman Khan ’s possible ouster from the Hindi film industry, following a court verdict sentencing the actor to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Chinkara poaching case, may put many projects in Bollywood in limbo. Strong reactions are coming from Bollywood, terming the court sentence of 5-yr rigorous imprisonment to Salman as “a harsh verdict”.
An estimated Rs 100 crore is believed to be at stake on the dashing actor. He is at present committed to some big projects like Babul , Jaaneman , Salaam-e-Ishq and Partner . Apart from movies, the actor is also slated to appear in TV commercials and product endorsements. Things have really gotten worse for Salman after the Jodhpur court’s verdict today. The actor is facing four poaching cases. Earlier in February this year, Salman was sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the same court for killing the endangered black buck. Film analyst S Kumar Mohan is quoted by a news agency as saying: "The court verdict would certainly come as a blow for the producers in which Salman is acting and film production would be hampered. Nearly Rs 100 crore is at stake involving Salman with at least six movies on the floor." Mohan added that the punishment was too harsh. "The verdict is indeed shocking but no one is above law," he said. After the court verdict today, Salman was taken to Jodhpur central jail under judicial custody where he will spend at least two nights before he can file for a bail in the district and sessions court Wednesday because the courts are closed Tuesday due to Mahaveer Jayanti.
