Meet Kangna Ranaut, the 'Gangster' girl

This beautiful girl from the hill town of Manali dared to dream of acting in films. To her great fortune, filmmaker Anurag Basu spotted her while she was sipping coffee in a Mumbai café.

Kangna Ranaut has gotten her foot in the Bollywood door with Mahesh Bhatt ’s film Gangster , in which she plays a gangster’s woman. In the film she enacts an interesting character of a girl who lives a dysfunctional life, running away from cops and drowning her pain in the bottle of wine.

Studying as a science student in Shimla, Kangna had never thought that one day she would work in a film under a reputed banner in Bollywood. But she did harbour a dream of acting, a dream that brought her to Delhi where she learnt acting while doing theatre.

Then Kangna took another step and came to Mumbai to try her luck in films. Her lucky break did not come straightaway, but after a while when Kangna had already tried unsuccessfully to make an entry into the tinsel town.

It happened last September, when Kangna was drinking coffee with one of her friends at a café in Mumbai. Filmmaker Anurag Basu , who had already directed a successful film, Murder , was keeping an open eye for the heroine of his next movie ‘Gangster’.

It was there Basu spotted Kangna and called her for the audition. Despite the fact that Kangna is not from a filmi background and has no real acting experience, Basu decided to cast her in his film. The rest, as they say, is history.

Kangna says now that she has got her Bollywood break, she is in no hurry to sign films. She says she wants to do quality work, something that hones her acting skills.

To start with, Kangna is said to have already signed Mahesh Bhatt’s next movie called ‘Woh Lamhe’.

But it is ‘Gangster’ that is occupying Kangna’s thoughts nowadays. The movie, slated to release later this month, has Emraan Hashmi and Shiney Ahuja in the male leads.
