HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD Babul is coming on Diwali 14th Apr 2006  14.02 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau   Babul – the emotional family drama starring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role is gearing up for a Diwali release. Diwali is considered to be a bumper time for new releases in Bollywood. Traditionally, the major big-budget blockbusters are lined up for release for the festival of lights. And Babul is one of the few films for which Bachchan has resumed work after recovering from his last year’s illness. Babul – from the makers of Baghban – is being promoted as a socially relevant family saga, and director Ravi Chopra is targeting a Diwali release. Apart from Bachchan Babul also stars Hema Malini , Rani Mukherjee , Salman Khan , John Abraham and Om Puri . The story has Bachchan and Hema playing a couple with Salman as their son and Rani as their daughter-in-law. The story takes an ugly turn when Salman dies in an accident and Rani is left a widow. As the father-in-law Bachchan takes the responsibility of the remarriage of Rani against social pressure, hence comes John in the picture. The shooting is expected to complete by July. A highlight of the film is a sensitive father-son number picturised on Bachchan and Salman in their own voices.
