The response to the movie in the US, however, has been lukewarm. HDKG could arguably be the first Akshay Kumar starrer to have had such an excellent opening in the UK. 
The film, directed by Raj Kanwar, opened at No. 10 position on UK charts and made Ł174,934 during its Easter weekend run on 38 screens. According to the sources, HDKG presently ranks above English flicks such as ‘Hostel’, ‘The Pink Panther’, ‘Yours, Mine and Ours’, ‘The Squid and The Whale’ and ‘The Dark’. The film’s performance in the US, however, was below expectations. The film opened at 36th position and made $108,630 during its run at 39 theatres during the Easter weekend. Still, the collections of HDKG in the US is above the two-week collections of Satish Kaushik’s comedy Shaadi Se Pehle which has grossed a paltry sum of $106,129 at the US box-office so far. HDKG is a love story of two people who meet in Canada and fall in love. Although both of them are engaged to someone else, they eventually find love in each other. The movie also stars Bipasha Basu and Anil Kapoor in marginal roles. The film is having just an average run in India.
