Usually, all types of titles, including those of movies, are registered with trademark authorities. However, there is a practice of getting movies registered with the film authorities too, that is Indian Motion Picture Association (IMPA). 
At present, the same title of a movie named 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' has been registered with two different authorities by two different producers. While Johar has registered this title with IMPA, a well known writer called as "memory man" Biswaroop Roy Chaudhary has registered the same title under the Trade Mark Act of 1999. Johar says that he will release his movie in August this year, Chaudhary insists that he will not allow the use of this title to Johar. Government authorities, however, wonder how IMPA can register titles, incurring a great loss of revenue to them and undermining their authority. Speaking about his movie Chaudhary said recently, "My movie is a musical tribute to encourage the audience to nurture a positive attitude and believe in one's dreams." He has elaborated his point by saying that the movie is all about having solid faith in what one dreams to reach. According to industry sources, Chaudhary has sought a compensation of Rs 100 million from Johar through a notice. He denies that his is a publicity stunt. In fact, he adds that 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' title suits his movie more than his rival's . He wonders if the industry's stalwarts will persuade Johar to relax in his favor. Chaudhary also argued that Johar is a big producer and has a galaxy of stars like Amitabh Bachchan , Shah Rukh Khan , Abhishek Bachchan , Rani Mukherjee , Preity Zinta , and Arjun Rampal among his cast, so he can afford to change his title and still fare better than his movie with the title of 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna'. Will the Bollywood producers settle the matter outside the court is a million dollar question? The government authorities are equally involved as they are losing a lot of revenue by allowing the IMPA to provide registration of titles. They are keeping a constant watch on the case.
