Shilpa has been doing local pilgrimages in Mumbai for the last few weeks. The deity she and her family believe in is Lord Ganesha, who, according to Hindu mythology, is worshiped before any other deity, and stands for prosperity and profit. 
In her worship and obeisance to Lord Ganesha, Shilpa has been walking all the way from her Lokhandwala apartment to the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi to offer prayers every Tuesday morning. Since she offers prayers early in the morning, Shilpa begins her local pilgrimage late at night and arrives at the temple in the wee hours of the morning. A report quotes Shilpa as saying: “My family is a firm believer of Lord Ganesh. Since a long time we have been wanting to offer our prayers this way.” Shilpa has as many as 140 different idols of Lord Ganesha at her home. She also tells a small anecdote about a papaya tree in her family’s factory in Thane, where the newly grown papayas had seeds shaped just like Lord Ganesha.
