'Omkara' gets its Cannes moment

While Bollywood beauties have been getting their share of attention at Cannes, the ‘Omkara’ team, too, has sprung into action.

Ajay Devgan , Vivek Oberoi and director Vishal Bhardwaj are at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival, promoting their film Omkara , an Indianized interpretation of Shakespeare’s Othello.

Vivek and Ajay looked dashing (in the pic) on the day of the movie’s promotion at the festival.

Firstly, a coffee table book on the making of the film was released by Ashok Amritraj. Then, a six-minute promotional video of the film was shown. The viewers seemed to like the showreel and some even danced to the movie’s songs.

Vivek looked cool in a linen beige jacket over a pink shirt. He wore grey corduroy trousers and crocodile skin leather shoes.

Ajay, on the other hand, was more suave. He was dressed in a grey coat over a grey high-neck T-shirt. He also wore dark sunglasses.

Addressing the media, Bhardwaj said that initially he had thought of making a small-budget movie. But as he poured over the story idea, he realized the subject had a greater potential and universal appeal.

"I realised that the 'Othello' adaptation could assume the dimensions of a big-budget star-driven venture…In terms of budget, it is six times bigger than Maqbool ,” Vishal is quoted in a media report.

The movie’s star, Ajay Devgan, was all praise for Bhardwaj.

"Director Vishal Bhardwaj has done a fabulous job of transporting William Shakespeare to an Uttar Pradesh mafia milieu. It is a great interpretation of a timeless classic," Ajay is quoted to have said.

Vivek Oberoi, too, seemed pretty impressed with the movie.

"I see 'Omkara' as Vishal Bhardwaj's interpretation, and not an exact replica of the Shakespeare play,” he said.

Vivek, particularly, looked stunning at the cocktail party in the night held at the Nikki Beach Resort. He was dressed in a traditional Indian outfit – white Jodhpuri with a black sherwani, designed by fashion designer Arjun Khanna.

There was Hollywood presence in the party and Vivek did make some heads turn.
