Many reasons for watching 'Fanaa'

The big day has arrived. Fanaa , one of the most awaited movies of the year, is just hours away from hitting the theatres. There are many reasons the film has already excited a moviegoer’s curiosity.

For one, ‘Fanaa’ is the first film to star Aamir Khan and Kajol as a couple in love. Although the two acted together in the past, but they have not been paired together before this movie.

Second, ‘Fanaa’ marks the comeback of Kajol after almost five years. She had gone into a self-chosen hibernation after her marriage to Ajay Devgan. Back then, she gave priority to her married domestic life and had put her acting career on the backburner.

Third, and most importantly, ‘Fanaa’ has a story that has already begun to catch people’s fancy. The film has Kajol playing a blind Kashmiri girl. Aamir plays a local tour guide with a penchant for poetry.

What is particularly spurring the curiosity is the ambiguity about Aamir’s character in the film. It is believed that Aamir plays a terrorist in the film, a militant who stays undercover until he has to execute his mission.

But, on the other hand, there are movie stills that show Aamir dressed in the army uniform with the name-tag on his dress reading Rajeev Singh. So there is real ambiguity as to his character – is he Rehan Qadri, a terrorist camouflaged as a tour guide, or is he Rajeev Singh, an army man.

Very shortly – without spoiling the suspense – from what is known about the movie’s story, Kajol plays Zooni Ali Beg, a blind Kashmiri girl who leaves her home to experience life on her own. Aamir plays a tour guide Rehan who falls for Kajol and takes her to Delhi. But there are dark sides to Rehan’s character, shades that he has carefully concealed from Zooni. And when the truth is revealed at last, one of the lovers has to make a difficult choice, a choice that would destroy either of them.

‘Fanaa’ is also the last film featuring music by Jatin-Lalit together. The composer duo has separated after ‘Fanaa’ and will now be working separately.

There has also been uncertainty whether ‘Fanaa’ will release on the multiplexes. But now, it has been announced that the movie will be shown at majority of multiplexes in Indian cities.

Well, just a few hours left to see whether the movie lives upto the hype it has generated. Just a few hours to see who will get ‘destroyed in love’, Kajol or Aamir!

The film also has Tabu and Kiron Kher in marginal roles, while Lara Dutta makes a cameo appearance.

Others in the cast include Rishi Kapoor , Shiney Ahuja and Gautami Kapoor.

‘Fanaa’ is directed by Kunal Kohli.
