To play goody-goody roles is something that no longer seems to excite Aamir Khan .
Not that the proverbial Mr. perfectionist of Bollywood is now latching on to villainous roles, but he seems no longer enthused to play the larger-than-life characters that, unrealistically, have no shades of grey.
To corroborate this point, let me throw in some of the ‘Aamir-speaks’.
Sample these – Not more than a few months back, when Shekhar Gupta had asked Aamir about his dream role, the actor said he would love to play the role of the archer Karan from the great Indian epic Mahabharata. Aamir said he likes the complexities and the grey shades of the character. And when filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj sounded to Aamir the idea of making a movie adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’, the actor instantly said he would love to play the role of the shrewd and scheming Iago, now being played by Saif Ali Khan in the film.
And to cite another instance, when Aamir saw Milan Luthria’s movie Taxi Number 9211 , the actor said what he liked the most about the film was that its characters were not simple black or white. He said he liked the negativity of the two male protagonists in the film.
And if all these instances still don’t suffice, you will know what I mean after you have watched Aamir’s latest movie Fanaa .
