HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD Big B bought Rs 2.7 lakh sunglasses30th May 2006 16.20 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau The superstar willingly shelled out a huge amount to buy the sunglasses he wears for his character of a blind lawyer in filmmaker S Ramanathan’s Zamaanat . Amitabh Bachchan and Ramanathan go back a long way. Before he became the indisputable superstar of Bollywood in early 70s, Bachchan acted in Ramanathan’s movie ‘Bombay To Goa’. Later, the two again worked together in ‘Mahaan’.
And now, almost after two decades, the two come together for ‘Zamaanat’, that has Amitabh playing a lawyer who goes blind after a bomb blast. Since half of the film has Amitabh playing blind, Ramanathan wanted him to wear dark sunglasses for his character. Bachchan, it is learnt, bought the sunglasses himself when he went to New York more than a year back. The shades – with Italian frames by designer Roberto Cavalli – cost the actor a dear sum of Rs. 2.7 lakh, but it was the piece most suited to his character. During the movie’s shooting, Bachchan wore the sunglasses and after the movie was complete the superstar gifted them to Ramanathan. Ramanathan is said to have stashed the sunglasses safely in his locker. He will make it a part of his film museum. ‘Zamaanat’ also stars Karisma Kapoor and Arshad Warsi . The movie is set to hit the theatres in June.
