HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Time Machine' scrapped31st May 2006 21.45 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has decided to scrap his proposed movie ‘Time Machine’ with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan . It would have been the meeting of two polarities – the experimental and unconventional Ram Gopal Varma directing Shah Rukh, the pin-up icon known for playing stereotypical lovey-dovey roles. But it was a meeting that was not to be. 
Varma has even had some meetings with Shah Rukh over the last few months. The two got along fine and Varma had plans to start ‘Time Machine’ in September. But now, Varma has scrapped the project because he feels that SRK’s sugary image and youthful exuberance is a mismatch with his maverick style of filmmaking. The filmmaker will now start working on his long-talked-about remake of Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay instead. A media report quotes Varma as saying: “I felt the kind of cinema I make is incompatible with Shah Rukh's image. I know he has a staggering fan following among children and women who love those kinds of sugary romances…I would be a total mismatch with Shah Rukh.” Varma adds there are no negative vibes between him and SRK. Varma says he is very excited about starting to work on ‘Sholay’ in September. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan in the role of Gabbar Singh. Mohit Ahlawat and Katrina Kaif will also act in the film.
