Two married couples. Both dealing with their troubled marriages – loss of love, lack of trust and understanding. Karan Johar’s movie Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna looks like a sensitive film on relationships.
Just before the film’s music release in London, Karan Johar said that although KANK will be different from his previous films, the subject of the story has “a deep emotive appeal”, like his previous works.
In KANK, Karan seems to have moved away from mushy romances and is dealing with rather ugly sides of relationships.
The story is set in New York. Dev (Shah Rukh) is married to Priya (Preity Zinta), and Rishi (Abhishek) is married to Maya (Rani). However, the two marriages are far from being ideal. Priya is a cold woman, while Dev yearns for more love in their relation. On the other hand, Rishi is a temperamental guy. His marriage with Maya seems to be on the rocks.
An unexpected twist in the story comes when Dev meets Maya. As the two get to know each other, they see clearly the shortcomings of their respective marriages and realize they are perfect for each other.
In a way, the film is about an extra-marital affair. But what conclusion Karan gives to this story remains to be seen. The movie also stars Amitabh Bachchan .
During the film’s music release in London, SRK said: “It is a great story, with great music.”
The film is scheduled to release on August 11. It will also have subtitles in French.
