Krrish : The countdown begins

Just two more days remain for Hrithik Roshan ’s much awaited film Krrish to hit the theatres.

It is being described as the cinematic event of the year. The mega budget (Rs 50 crore) movie ‘Krrish’, directed by Rakesh Roshan will release worldwide on June 23. It will be the first Hindi film to release simultaneously in two other languages – Tamil and Telugu. In total, estimated 800 prints of the film will be released.

There are many reasons that make ‘Krrish’ so special. Firstly, it marks the return of Hrithik Roshan to the big screen after a gap of two years. Secondly, it is the first ‘superhero film’ of the Hindi cinema. Thirdly, the movie is a sequel to Rakesh Roshan’s previous, highly successful Koi Mil Gaya .

The story of ‘Krrish’ begins where KMG ended. Hrithik plays Krishna, the son of Rohit and Nisha (played by Hrithik and Preity Zinta in KMG). Krishna’s parents die in a car accident, leaving his grandmother ( Rekha ) to raise him.

However, the legacy of Rohit passes on to Krishna. He is endowed with superpowers.

The movie has Hrithik in as many as six different looks. He plays a village boy in the first half. As the story progresses he goes to Singapore to pursue his ladylove ( Priyanka Chopra ). It is here he becomes famous as a masked superhero. Krishna becomes Krrish and fights a megalomaniac scientist (played by Naseeruddin Shah ).

In an interview a few days back, Hrithik said ‘Krrish’ would herald a new genre of superhero films in Indian cinema. ‘Krrish’ will be similar to the Superman of India, Hrithik said.

The film shows Hrithik doing incredible stunts – jumping from skyscrapers, skidding through the air, somersaulting upwards and more. Many a time the actor got injured while shooting these scenes under the guidance of Chinese expert Tony Ching.

A special screening of the movie was held for a selected few from Bollywood. Shah Rukh Khan , his kids, and Karan Johar have seen the film and “liked it immensely”.

Trade pundits say ‘Krrish’ will get a very huge opening at the box-office in the weekend of its release.
