What is keeping the talented Nandita Das busy nowadays?
We haven’t seen much of her lately. Last year, she did not sign any new projects and made just a marginal appearance in Jagmohan Mundhra’s soon-to-be-released film Provoked . Is Nandita Das saying goodbye to films?
No, she is not quitting films, because acting, she says, is not just a job for her but a means of communicating to people.
The last year may have been lull, but this year Nandita is said to have signed four projects. Although none of them is a mainstream Bollywood film, Nandita says she has nothing against commercial cinema.
“It’s not about art or commercial cinema but good or bad films. I would love to do commercial films, provided I can connect to them,” Nandita is quoted as saying.
Nandita has been busy with four films, all of them in regional languages. The said films are Santosh Sivan’s ‘Kerala - Road To The Sky’, Chitra Palekar’s Marathi film ‘Maati Maaye’, Suman Ghosh’s Bengali film ‘Padakkhep’ and KNT Shastri’s Telugu film ‘Kamli’.
Of these films, Nandita is particularly excited about ‘Padakkhep’ because she acts alongside Soumitra Chaterjee in the movie.
Mr. Chaterjee plays Nandita’s father. The film is about old age and the generation gap.
Nandita says she would herself like to direct a movie someday.
