Konkana Sen wants to do different kinds of roles, films

In just a short period of time, Konkana Sen has established herself as an actress, who has the knack of slipping into diverse characters with the deftness of a veteran.

Konkana is one of the few actresses who seems equally at ease with the so-called art cinema, as well as cinema of the mainstream variety.

Whether it be playing the South Indian housewife in 'Mr. and Mrs. Iyer' or a Page 3 journalist in Madhur Bhandarkar 's Page 3 , or, for that matter, a prostitute in the forthcoming Omkara , Konkana seems absolutely at ease essaying such diverse characters traversing a wide variety of genres and styles.

For Konkana, however, doing diverse roles in films running across genres and styles is part of a conscious strategy.

"I want to work in different kinds of films and try my hand at a wide variety of roles. Infact, when I am offered a film, it does not matter to me whether a film is art cinema or so called commercial cinema as long as my role in it is good," Konkana said in New Delhi even as her latest film Yun Hota To Kya Hota released across India on Friday.

"Also, I am open to working with any filmmaker if my role in the film appeals to me," Konkana added.

For 'Yun Hota To Kya Hota', which marks the directorial debut of Naseeruddin Shah , however, Konkana made an exception, taking up the film driven purely by the desire to work with the accomplished actor, more than any thing else.

"I did the film just because I wanted so desperately to work with Naseer. I have been a great admirer of his films from my childhood. So when this offer came I immediately lapped it up. It would not have mattered even of the roles was a 'walk-on role" or a guest appearance. For me, just landing a role in a film by Naseer was a dream come true," Konkana said excitedly.

"For me, it is definitely a compliment that Naseer chose me for the role. For, I feel that he chooses his actors after carefully considering whether they would be able to deliver the goods. That he had the confidence in me is definitely a matter of pride," she said.

Infact, so eager was she to do the film that she did not even read the script before signing the film.

"I was confident that Naseer would do a good job," Konkana said.
