Who’s best suited to play Lord Ram?

Rumours have been abuzz that actor Ajay Devgan has been signed to play the role of Lord Ram in Rajkumar Santoshi ’s film ‘Ramayana’.

However, there is no truth to such grapevine as Santoshi has denied that Devgan has been signed for the project.

The film, presently in the scripting stages, will be the first movie to be produced under the newly launched production house (Raj Kumar Santoshi Films Pvt Ltd) by Santoshi himself.

“It will be the biggest and most spectacular version of the epic,” Santoshi is quoted as saying about the project.

While gossip has been going around that either Devgan or Hrithik Roshan will play the eponymous role of Lord Ram, Santoshi says no actor has yet been finalized.

But Santoshi does make it clear that any actor who signs for the role would have to understand the importance and seriousness of it. At least during the time when the film is in the making and before it releases, the actor would have to be cautious about his public conduct.

The image of the actor, in Santoshi’s opinion, will have an impact on the public perception.

The filmmaker is wary of signing any newcomer because he fears that he would have to guide a rookie in playing the role that entails great responsibility.

The movie’s cast is likely to be finalized in the coming month. The shooting will begin next year.
