Munnabhai and Circuit are back!

The loveable Mumbai goon Munnabhai and his hilarious sidekick Circuit are back to entertain the audience after a gap of nearly three years.

It was in the winter of 2003 when Munnabhai MBBS released and went on to become a superhit at the box-office. The film’s USP was the comic chemistry between its two main characters, Munnabhai and Circuit, played by Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi respectively.

The movie, directed by Raju Hirani, blended comedy with emotional moments in such a way that the audience laughed and wept while watching the film. Such was the magic of Munnabhai that the film is currently being re-made in Hollywood as ‘Gangsta MD’ with Chris Tucker in the lead role.

And now, Munnabhai and Circuit return with a promise of yet another laugh riot in Lage Raho Munnabhai . The film has Dutt playing the local goon Munnabhai who is in love with the voice of a radio jockey named Jhanvi, played by Vidya Balan .

There is just one hurdle in the way of Munnabhai to woo Jhanvi. She thinks Munna is a professor of History. She wants Munna to come to her house and give a history lecture to her family.

Munnabhai, the illiterate, foul-mouthed goon, is clueless as to what to do. It is then Munna’s sidekick Circuit comes handy.

As Munnabhai struggles to take on the persona of a History professor, he comes face to face with the ideology of an esteemed figure from Indian history – Mahatma Gandhi.

‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ also stars Jimmy Shergill and Boman Irani . Jimmy plays a man in despair. Boman plays a loud-mouthed Punjabi builder. Dia Mirza plays his rebellious daughter.

Even when ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ was in the making, several hilarious incidents happened on the movie’s sets.

One such incident occurred while shooting the song Samjo Ho Hi Gaya in which a shot shows Sanjay’s face covered with kiss marks. While the make-up man struggled to create those kiss marks, Sanjay joked that there were so many girls around who could help. The make-up man took Sanju’s jest seriously and actually made the girls (the extras) put on lipstick and kiss Sanju one by one.

In another incident, the movie’s crew played a prank on Vidya Balan while shooting a sequence in which she is shown slapping Sanjay. However, while shooting the scene, Vidya could never bring conviction into the slap as her hand always kept stopping before hitting Sanju’s face. It took Vidya some time to know that a prank was being played on her and she wasn’t actually required to slap Sanju because the camera trick would create the impression of a slap on the screen.

Apart from this, there were many hilarious moments whenever Sanjay and Arshad got together. Their jokes did not stop even when the camera was not rolling.

‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ releases on September 1.
