'Zindaggi Rocks' is more about relationships than rock n’ roll

Tanuja Chandra’s film Zindagi Rocks is not just about rock n’ roll music. It is a film that explores human relationships on many levels.

While the movie’s title will have you believe that ‘Zindaggi Rocks’ is all about head-banging and screeching guitars, the movie’s director Tanuja Chandra says her attempt is to tell a thought provoking story.

The film has Sushmita Sen playing a rock singer, Kriya. She is an independent, extrovert, open-minded woman who has a 12-year-old son. Kriya’s mother is a very stern and serious woman, while her mausi (mother’s sister) is buoyant and vivacious.

‘Zindaggi Rocks’ is the love story between Kriya and doctor Suraj Rihan, played by Shiney Ahuja .

Although the film’s story is told from the doctor’s perspective, it is Kriya who is the movie’s protagonist. The story explores Kriya’s relationship with the doctor, her relationship with her son and with her mother.

With a female director (Tanuja), producer (Anuradha Prasad) and protagonist (Sush) , ‘Zindaggi Rocks’ is a movie with women at the helm. The film also has Moushmi Chatterjee in double roles : one as Sush’s mother, and another as her mausi.

Sushmita says she has many hopes from ‘Zindaggi Rocks’, which she describes as Tanuja Chandra’s “finest work till date.”

The movie, Sush says, has an interesting story and “colloquial dialogues” taken straight out of real life.

In Sushmita’s opinion, Chandra is an intelligent filmmaker who combines realism with the idiom of commercial cinema in a way that makes the movie artistic as well as entertaining.

The music of ‘Zindaggi Rocks’ has already been received very well by the movie buffs. And the fate of the film will be known in the days following its release on October 6.
