Even at the age of 58, Bollywood’s dream girl has a blooming beauty, charming persona and a dazzling smile.

Hema Malini is playing many roles in her life at an age when most people choose to rest on their laurels. An actress, a danseuse, a Rajya Sabha member, a social activist and above all, a dreamer : this indefatigable Libran says she wants to live “a purposeful life.”

On Monday, October 16, Ms Malini turns 58. On her last birthday she was in Switzerland for a parliamentary meet. This year, however, she will be at home with her younger daughter Ahana, who is said to have organized a small party for close family members and friends. Elder daughter Esha Deol is in Cape Town shooting for a movie. She might fly back for a day to surprise her mommy on her b-day, but it is not confirmed yet. Malini’s husband Dharmendra is in the US.

As another year passes for this gorgeous multi-talented actress, she says she wants to do much more for the society.

She wants to do something to empower the girl child and to promote Indian culture.

On personal front, she wants to start her dance institute and also direct a movie featuring her two daughters.

Malini was born in Madras (Chennai) on October 16, 1948, into a Brahmin Iyengar family. A trained Bharat Natyam dancer, she made her acting debut in Raj Kapoor's ‘Sapnon Ka Saudagar’ in 1968. After a few moderate films, she got a big break with ‘Johnny Mera Naam’, which turned out to be a golden jubilee hit. But it was with ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ in 1972, that she established herself as the queen of box-office. This double role as twin sisters won her the Best Actress Award. Since then, Malini has played many memorable roles, the most identifiable being her Basanti character in Sholay . She directed a movie called ‘Dil Aashna Hai’ in 1991.

In 1998, she was awarded the Padma Bhushan for her contribution to Indian Cinema.

Two years ago, she made a comeback to Bollywood screen with Ravi Chopra’s family drama Baghban . Currently she is working in Babul by Chopra.
