Shirish Kunder’s directorial debut may have received mixed reviews from critics, but everyone seems unanimous in appreciating Akshay Kumar’s performance in the film.
Playing the bespectacled, buck-toothed, studious nerd, it is Akshay (and not Salman Khan as the long haired rockstar) who brings the house down with his impeccable comic sense and timing.
Later in his role in the film, Akki transforms into a dapperly dressed astronaut. But he retains a goofy giggle in his character. And that nervous laughter of Agastya (Akki’s character) is being liked immensely by all and sundry.
Even in crucial moments like proposing Preity Zinta for marriage in the second half of the film, Akshay giggles nervously. And that deep-throated, nervous laughter has done wonders to Akshay’s character.
Some media reports suggest that Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan were very impressed by Akshay’s performance after seeing ‘Jaanemann’. They even called Akki in Dubai (where he is shooting for a movie) to congratulate him.
Meanwhile, ‘Jaanemann’ has picked up at the box-office after a slow start. But Farhan Akhtar’s Don still has the upper hand over it.
