How Aishwarya Rai celebrated her birthday

The gorgeous Aishwarya Rai , who turned 33 on Wednesday, was not in Mumbai for the past few years on her birthday.

But this time Ash was in Mumbai on the occasion and celebrated her birthday on Wednesday with a special midnight screening of her latest movie Umrao Jaan and by spending time with her family after a visit to a temple.

"Aishwarya ushered in her birthday at midnight with a screening of 'Umrao Jaan' organised by the film's director J.P. Dutta and was thrilled to watch the results of six months of hard work," the star's business manager Hari Singh said.

Ash visited Siddhivinayak temple on Wednesday morning and spent the day attending to phone calls, SMSs and e-mails from her friends, relatives and hordes of fans, Singh said.

"Since she has not been in the city on her birthday for the past few years, she is making the most of it and spending time with her family," he said.

Ash has been seen in public after a long absence, promoting "Umrao Jaan" in which she plays the lead role opposite Abhishek Bachchan . The film will be released on Friday.

The anticipation for the movie has been heightened by media speculation that Ash and Abhishek are set to replicate their romance in real life and will be tying the knot.

The past year has seen the release of two international movies featuring Ash – Mistress Of Spices and Jagmohan Mundhra 's Provoked .

Ash has several high profile releases to look forward to in the coming months, including Dhoom 2 and The Last Legion , an epic drama set during the end of the Roman empire that features her alongside Colin Firth and Ben Kingsley.
