Even before Aishwarya Rai joined the film industry, she had a brief encounter with actress Rekha .
Aishwarya is currently the talk of tinsel town for her emphatic performance in J.P. Dutta’s latest movie Umrao Jaan . The role of the courtesan in the movie almost became synonymous with Rekha, who iconized the same part of Umrao Jaan in Muzaffar Ali’s movie in 1981.
Aishwarya, who now plays the same role that Rekha once did, says she shares a special connection with the senior actress.
And Ash still remembers to this day a brief encounter with Rekha in the days before she (Ash) began her acting career.
It happened at a store near the place where Ash was living.
“She (Rekha) stopped her car, came to me and said: 'You are mine and you are going to be here (film industry) for a long time,'” Ash is quoted as saying.
Ash says she has always had “great respect and admiration” for Rekha.
She calls it a beautiful coincidence that she has now got to play the role once immortalized by Rekha.
By the way, ‘Umrao Jaan’ has opened to mixed reviews from film critics. However, Aishwarya’s performance in the film has been liked by many.
